Biography

Venus Khim-Sen Liew studied Mathematics (BSc.) and Financial Economics (Master, PhD) at Universiti Putra Malaysia. He has been in the teaching line since 1986. Prior to joining the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak as an Associate Professor on April 1, 2009, Liew served Universiti Malaysia Sarawak as a Senior Lecturer, and the Ministry of Education as a Teacher. Liew regards research as one of his hobbies and he likes to apply nonlinear econometrics, simulation, bootstrapping and technical analysis in studying issues related to international economics, financial economics, and macroeconomics. As for research output, Liew has to date published some 40 articles in refereed international journals including those indexed in Social Sciences Index (11 articles) and SCOPUS (18). Apart from that, he has also contributed about 20 articles to Malaysian-based refereed journals. Liew is a regularly invited to review manuscripts submitted to various international journals. Liew served the Labuan Bulletin of International Business and Finance as Managing Editor for the period 2005 to 2008. Currently, he is the English and Malay Editor of Munich Paper of RePEc Archive (MPRA, based in University of Germany). Liew co-edited a book entitled "Time Series Econometric Analysis: Selected Issues in ASEAN Countries". Liew is the author of "Monetary Models of Exchange Rate: Nonlinearity Matters". As of May 2010, his h-index and g-index are 7 and 12 respectively. Liew's biography is included in 27th Edition of Who's Who in the World, which profiles the most acomplished persons in 215 countries and territories around the world in 2010.

Editorial

Currently, Venus Liew is the English and Malay Editor of the Munich Paper of RePEc Archive (MPRA)(Germany). He is also the Editorial Advisor of International Research Journal of Finance and Economics (USA) and International Journal of Finance and Policy Analyst (India). Formerly, he served as the Managing Editor of the Labuan Bulletin of International Business and Finance (Labuan International Campus, University Malaysia Sabah, September 2005 - November 2008). Liew had co-edited a book entitled "Time Series Econometrics Analysis: Selected Issues in ASEAN Economies (2007, 2nd Edition)”, and proceedings entitled “Proceedings of the International Conference in Economics and Finance (2005)” and "Proceedings of the Applied International Business Conference (2008)". Venus Liew is the author of "Monetary Models of Exchange Rate: Nonlinearity Matters (2008)"

Conferences Participated

Venus Liew is a regular participant of academic conferences. He has so far presented his works including those on the ASEAN equity and foreign exchange markets in, among others, the Annual Global Finance Conference (Australia, 2007) the Singapore Economic Review Conference (Singapore, 2005), the International Borneo Business Conference (2004, 2006), the International Conference on Asian Academy of Applied Business (2003), the Asia Pacific Economics and Business Conference (2002, 2004), the Malaysian Finance Association’s 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th) Annual Symposium (2003, 2004, 2005, 2008), Asia Pacific Business Environment Conference (2003), Applied International Business Conference (2008).

Research Experiences

Venus Liew has been an active researcher since the year 2000. He had been a research assistant in the Faculty of Economics and Management of Universiti Putra Malaysia for more than one year. In the period 2002 - 2003, Venus Liew had assisted his supervisor in conducting a project on “The ASEAN Currencies and the Fundamentals: Evidence Based on Nonlinear Approach”. After that, he had independently completed a fundamental project entitled “On the Adjustment of Exchange Rate towards the Monetary Fundamentals in Malaysia”. Recently, he is working on “Revisiting Purchasing Power Parity for Central Asian Economies", and "Monetary Models of ASEAN-5 Exchange Rates: Long-run Cointegration and Coefficient Restrictions " . Venus Liew is also involved in the Stragegic Manpower Study for Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy project (SMS SCORE) as a researcher.
